Growing quality cauliflower is an art. Don't get discouraged if your first attempt does not go as planned. The environmental and cultural conditions must be right to contact a successful cauliflower crop. Seeds should be started 8-10 weeks prior to your last average frost date, with hardened-off seedlings planted out after frost has passed. Like carrot seeds, planting cauliflower out too early or too late often leads to bolting. In many areas, cauliflower is best as a fall crop with seeds started indoors in late June to early July.
