Our only variety that is used both for its excellent eating quality and for its ornamental value. This heirloom is one of the oldest runner beans available. Light green, flat pods grow 12 to 16 in. long. Young pods can be used as tender snaps. Mature pods are full of pretty, large, shiny black and purple mottled beans that are great fresh or dried. The more you pick them the more they produce. Plants grow to a height of 10 ft. From July until frost, they are covered with clusters of beautiful, scarlet flowers that are edible. As satisfying to look at as it is to taste. Attractive to hummingbirds. 70 days.
